School's out, Endoscopy Me, and Bearista

I'm feeling significantly less stressed now that the term is over. Thanks to my being hunched over while poring over various texts, I'd developed a set of strained neck muscles causing severe headaches. It'll take a bit to recover, but it was worth it. A in Japanese, A- in 3841 Japanese Lit, and B in East Asian Civ. Okay, I've got my confidence now. Here on out, upper division only.

-----

A while back, I had been mentioning the heartburn and my doctor had put me on Protonix until I get to a specialist to see what's up. Naturally, this had to wait until my classes ended. Today was my scheduled appointment with the MD. I told him what's up, and he says that I'll need to be put under while they shove the camera down my throat and check things out. My response? "You're gonna put me under? Sweet!" Yeah, that's me in a nutshell. They tell me to have someone bring me and take me home as I won't be able to drive afterward. Thankfully, Hottie McStudPants (aka dr_tectonic) was able to take some time off for this.

I get dressed into the robes, and they lead me to a bed where they insert the IV into my hand, take the preliminary information about allergies and whatnot, then wheel me into the OR. A smaller room than what I was expecting, but when they told me it would only take about 10 minutes, I could see why. The doc comes in, has me sign a paper, then holds a can up to my mouth and tells me to say "Ah". It looked like a can of compressed air, so I'm thinking it's probably just something to clean out the mouth.

I really need a "Monkey Senses Tingling" warning.

The fluid sprayed into my mouth was rather reminiscent of Chloroseptic. That is, Chloroseptic From Hell, with 4x the power and a vile taste to match (yet still more pleasant than natto). (I think Natto flavored Chloroseptic would kill any American instantly. I'm not kidding.) Anyway, I suddenly find that I can't swallow anymore, much less feel any part of my throat. Oh, of course they need this; it kills the gag reflex. Duh.

The nurse proceeds to starts to hook up the anaesthetic to the IV, and warns me, "Just so you know, this stuff works fast." I feel a chill in my arm as the drug enters the body, and I start to chat with the nurse about the car wreck and intubation I had abo

I realize I'm back in the enclosed area, with Beemer sitting next to me reading a magazine. I'm groggy as all hell, wondering what just happened. "Yeah, we're done. You're going to rest here for about half an hour waiting for the drugs to wear off a bit before we send you home." I slip in and out of consciousness for the duration, after which I'm wheelchaired off to the car. Turns out they took pics of my tummy and took some samples for biopsy. Looks like there are three potential worry spots, including one developed hernia. However, the Protonix is doing its thing, keeping the pain away, and I'm ordered to get more KF and exercise in during the summer. (Speaking of which, bryree is testing for his Green Sash this weekend!)

-----

Speaking of all the free time I'll have during the summer, I'm thinking of applying for the Starbucks nearby. I've worked at one in a Safeway before, so there won't be much in the way of training, plus I don't want full time work as I'll need to keep up on my studies. We'll see if it works out.

I could see that happening given what condition it leaves one in. I remember being thirsty and asking for water, but I kept nodding off while I tried to drink it.

Flatterer. =)
Just so you know, you're cute when you worry about whether you were snoring while under anaesthesia.

Dammit. Now you've got me programmed to worry about it no matter where I am! I'll not let your mental programming get the best of me, Dr. T!

Thanks for the writeup! I may have to have that done, to determine whether having my gall bladder removed is indeed likely to help with the recurrent pancreatitis.

Glad I could help. I've got plenty of other medical stories, given how much time I've spent in hospitals. Feel free to ask away.

My air-travel addled brain got confused and read that as McHotPants. Given that I really don't think dr_tectonic would look good in hot pants (um. er. yeah.), I'm glad I'm just out of it.

Are you taking any classes in the summer?

Um. I would pay to see Beemer in hot pants.

Yeah--sorry to have brought it up. It just really made my brain go "huh?"

I hate being jetlagged...

I don't think they make hot pants in his size.

Anyway, no, I'm not taking classes this summer. I looked into it, but found that it would only be a waste of time and resources. Sure, Women in Russian Lit would be kinda neat, but not so helpful.

Seeing as this entry was from several weeks ago, you are probably feeling a little less stoned, and also may have resolved your job situation.

I'm just checking in because I wanted to see if you'd seen X-men. My brother and I went last night after reading several back issues, and I kept recalling the conversation you and I had about Kitty Pride. She's in the movie, but so underdeveloped there's almost no point, ditto with Colossus.

Anyway, hope you're well!

I haven't seen it yet for several reasons, but mainly because I see very few things on opening nights. Since then, I haven't had the time.

The main problem, IMO, with putting Kitty on the screen is that her character has a genius intellect. Making her anywhere near realistic would involve her out thinking everyone else, which takes the spotlight off Mr. Brainiac Xavier. (Or in part 3, Beast) Regardless, I hear that they crammed in so many mutants, no one got any worthwhile screentime.

Except for Jean and Wolvie. Jean? Okay, it's "Dark Phoenix", but this means nothing without Cyke. Wolvie is just overrated. And I hate his hair. Alot.

I was hoping to hear about Colossus in action, but it sounds like be became background quickly. Which is a shame, because Peter is more than just a tin man.
